Faith Kipyegon nominated for 2024 Laureus Sportswoman award

Faith Kipyegon, holder of two world records, has been nominated for the esteemed 2024 Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year Award. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on April 22, 2024, in Madrid.

Kipyegon, who also holds the World 1500m record, will vie for the accolade alongside her fellow track athletes. Among them are Sha’Carri Richardson, the World 100-meter champion, and Shericka Jackson, the two-time World 200m champion.

The 30-year-old athlete will face tough competition from other notable contenders, including Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, Spanish football star Atana Bonmati, and Tennis sensation Iga Swiatek.

Kipyegon’s remarkable achievements include breaking the 1500-meter world record at the Diamond League Meeting in Florence, Italy. Additionally, less than a week later, she shattered the 5000-meter world record in Paris, France.

Her stellar performance continued with gold medal victories in the 1500m and 5000m events at the World Championships in Budapest. She capped off her exceptional season by securing the 1500-meter Diamond League Trophy.

In the men’s category, notable contenders include Inter Miami and Argentina skipper Lionel Messi, Formula One star Max Verstappen, and tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
