The Energy And Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Friday, November 18, 2022, launched the Electrical, Petroleum & LPG Safety Campaign dubbed “Kaa Safe Mtaani”.
The campaign seeks to raise consumer awareness of the safe use of electrical, petroleum & LPG products.
“The campaign speaks to the common mwananchi and educates them on crucial steps, applicable to their everyday life that could avert any harm or loss of life”.
In his speech during the official launch of the #KaaSafeMtaani Campaign at Sarova Panafric, Nairobi, the Cabinet Secretary EnergyMinK Davis Chirchir noted that the “KaaSafeMtaani” campaign is timely in the current environment of increased energy consumption.
“We are optimistic that Kenyans will embrace these safety messages and cub the occurrence of accidents and incidents related to energy use.” the CS noted

EPRA Director General Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria added that the #KaaSafeMtaani Campaign seeks to sensitize the public to be vigilant in ensuring safety as they use energy sources.
The campaign also aims to improve compliance, accountability, and responsiveness to customer requirements by requiring participants in the electricity and petroleum subsectors to comply with the Energy Act, 2019, the Petroleum Act, 2019, and the Energy sector Regulations.
The ministry of energy added that they are committed to supporting efforts toward the well-being of Kenyans and delivering to them the services they need.

In 2009, Kenya witnessed its biggest oil tanker accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway in the Sachang’wan district, when a tanker burst into flames, killing more than 100 people and injuring many more.
According to data from EPRA, there have been 22 documented petroleum tanker accidents in the last two years alone with Identical situations continuing to occur, though on a smaller scale, more than ten years later.
