Eldas Constituency has issued an urgent call for the immediate release of Della Ward MCA Yussuf Hussein, who was reportedly abducted four days ago in Nairobi while traveling in a taxi.

The letter, addressed to the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), comes amidst mounting frustration from the Eldas constituents and the public in Wajir County as the search for the missing leader continues with limited progress.

The letter, dated September 16, 2024, and signed by the leadership of Eldas Constituency, reads in part: “We, the Eldas constituents and the public members of Wajir County, hereby request the release of the above-mentioned with immediate effect.”

The statement continues, “Abduction is an unlawful act and grave assault on our democratic principles, thus we are demanding the DCI and all security agencies to clarify this circumstance within 24 hours. We seek accountability and full explanation concerning this matter and the abuse of power.”

The press statement calls for the authorities to clarify the circumstances of Hussein’s disappearance within 24 hours, stressing that the abduction is a violation of democratic principles.

According to the statement, the community urges that if there are any legitimate grounds for Hussein’s detention, he should be immediately presented before a court of law to ensure due process. The statement adds, “Failure to comply with public demand, which is the release of the abducted honorable member, then we will have no other precise option than to demonstrate constitutionally and demand the whereabouts of Hon. Yussuf Hussein.”

In the absence of any clear explanation or release of Hussein, the Eldas community has vowed to hold peaceful protests within Eldas constituency, Wajir town, and even at DCI Headquarters in Nairobi to demand the MCA’s release.
