The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has obtained court orders from the High Court to freeze a vast fortune comprising 17 luxury vehicles and 106 premium properties owned by Felix Mecha Nyakundi, the Thika Land Registrar.
The state agency alleges that this wealth was obtained through corrupt practices and misuse of authority, and therefore, should be surrendered to the state.
“EACC has, today, secured orders from the High Court freezing multi-billion wealth including 106 prime land parcels and commercial buildings in different counties, 17 high-end vehicles and KES 4,260,000 in cash belonging to Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi,” the antigraft watchdog revealed.
Lady Justice Esther Maina on Tuesday granted the commission powers to also retain an additional sum of unexplained KES 4.2 million which was seized after a search was conducted at the suspect’s premises.
Nyakundi cannot practically have amassed such wealth through lawful and legitimate means and in the absence of any satisfactory explanation, his accumulated wealth can only be proceeds of corruption hence liable to forfeiture to the Government of Kenya,” argued EACC in court submissions.
The properties being targeted include 16 properties in Nairobi, 2 in Utawala, 6 in Ngong, 13 in Kilifi, 11 in Kitutu Central constituency, 6 in Kitutu West, 7 in Mavueni, and another in Kisumu, Kitale among others.
