The Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, Noordin Haji has made chilling revelations against the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, implicating the latter in massive forgery and coercion.

Speaking on a local TV station, the DPP referenced Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s corruption case, which he says was founded on forged documents and coercion through the media.

“We were pushed by the DCI himself through the media to the extent that individuals were saying that we did not make the decision to charge because we were compromised or some of us were sympathetic,” Said the DP.

“When we looked at the evidence, we felt that there was sufficient evidence to charge and we made that decision to charge. Only now that with the affidavit to discover that the evidence itself was forged,”

Haji said that the DP’s case was just one incident, promising to review the evidence presented on several cases which might have been fueled by George Kinoti’s push to serve the interests of powerful individuals.

He added that those found culpable would have to be punished according to the law, including George Kinoti himself.

“There will be investigations on officers. If you look at some of the affidavits, they have said that they were coerced and threatened. If there was coercion, then the person who coerced them will have to face the law,” he said.

“George Kinoti was a colleague and I do not want to take advantage of this, but if somebody broke the law, they will have to face the law,”

In baby Samantha Pendo’s murder case that the DPP promised to make fresh charges last week, Haji poked holes in the investigations conducted by the DCI, saying they had plans to shield the perpetrators.

“I found the case of baby Pendo then made the decision that it should go for an inquest because the investigations done by the DCI were wanting. We asked the UN for help because we felt that someone must take responsibility,” said Haji.
