Nigerian superstar Davido has announced his intention to take legal action against Kenyan television station K24 for circulating false reports about his alleged arrest in the country

The controversial claims, which surfaced on April 1st, alleged that the “Fall” hitmaker had been apprehended by Kenyan authorities following the discovery of a significant quantity of cocaine aboard his private jet.

In a press release, Davido categorically refuted the allegations, stating, “I want to assure my fans that these reports are entirely untrue. I successfully completed my scheduled shows in Uganda and Kenya and have since returned home to Nigeria.” He emphasized his clean record, declaring, “I have never been arrested by anyone in any country for any crime in the world.”

“I find the fabrication of allegations of such international crimes extremely irresponsible regardless of the light of ‘April Fools’, and my lawyer is seeking legal recourse against the media parties responsible for generating this misinformation,” Davido stated.

The controversy can be traced back to a misleading article published by K24, which provided detailed accounts of the alleged incident, including quotes from purported law enforcement officials. However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya swiftly refuted the story, labeling it as fake news, further fueling the conflicting narratives surrounding the incident.

Legal experts suggest that Davido may have a strong case for defamation and damages against K24, as the false reports could potentially tarnish his reputation and negatively impact his commercial interests. The incident has also reignited the debate surrounding ethical journalism and the need for media outlets to exercise due diligence in verifying information before publication.

K24 later deleted the article and acknowledged it as an ill-conceived April Fool’s prank.
