Communication Authority Of Kenya (CA) intends to integrate telcos’ databases into one system to help weed usage of sim cards registered under the dead people.
The move will see Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom share a database.
“The system will be installed at the CA Centre, and will provide interfaces to integrate with the MNOs’ subscriber registration database, the Integrated Population Registration System (IPRS), Personal Identification Secure Comparison and Evaluation System (PISCES), Registrar of Companies database, the database of dead persons and any other database of relevance,” said CA.
CA is currently looking to purchase a SIM card registration data dump analysis technology that will map mobile subscriber numbers with data from government databases.
At the same time as the CA is proposing laws that would require corporations to present their CR12 certificates in order to register their firm SIM cards, a step to link the database with the Registrar of Companies has also been made.
The action is intended to provide the telecoms and the government with information on the directors and beneficial owners of the companies using the lines. The formal document known as CR12 contains information about a company’s shareholding or directorship.
This comes amid a rush by mobile subscribers to register their SIM cards before the CA’s October 15 deadline for SIM registrations.
According to the CA, 200,000 SIM cards have already been deactivated as a result of being registered with incorrect identifying information.
