Azimio La Umoja is now calling for a comprehensive investigation into the helicopter crash that resulted in the tragic death of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla. They have rejected the military’s internal investigation process, citing concerns about transparency, and is advocating for a parliamentary inquiry instead.
This move draws parallels to the special parliamentary committee established to investigate the murder of former Cabinet Minister Robert Ouko. Azimio emphasizes the importance of conducting both a parliamentary probe and a judicial inquest to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Azimio is further urging for the inclusion of the affected families through their representatives, echoing a similar demand made during the investigation into Ouko’s murder. To achieve this, the coalition tasked Mathare MP Antony Oluoch and Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua to realise the approach.
“We have authorised Antony Oluoch and Senator Wambua to lead a process of establishing a joint parliamentary inquiry involving both the Senate and National Assembly into the unfortunate death of General Ogolla,” National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, who read the Parliamentary Group resolution, said.
Azimio emphasized that only a combination of parliamentary investigation and judicial inquiry could uncover the true circumstances behind the deaths. They pointed to conflicting statements from President William Ruto and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen as evidence supporting the need for such thorough examinations.
