Airtel Money has joined forces with Moja Expressway Company, the Chinese firm managing the Nairobi Expressway, to enable toll payments via its mobile money platform. This partnership introduces Airtel Money as a payment option for the over 70,000 motorists who use the 27.1-kilometer expressway daily.

Motorists now have the flexibility to pay their toll fees using Airtel Money in addition to existing payment methods, including cash, M-pesa and manual and Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) cards. The initiative marks another step in Airtel’s ongoing efforts to popularize its services and expand its presence in the highly competitive Kenyan mobile money market where Airtel Money Kenya signed a partnership with Naivas Supermarket that will allow Airtel Money customers to deposit and withdraw cash across Naivas branches countrywide.

Airtel Money customers can conveniently pay toll fees at exit stations through either the Manual or Electronic Toll Collection systems. Payments can be made using their registered Airtel numbers or by topping up their accounts via *819# or the Moja Expressway website.

For MTC users, the process involves entering their PIN after receiving a push notification, ensuring a seamless and secure transaction experience. As part of Airtel’s festive season promotions, motorists using Airtel Money to pay toll fees on the Nairobi Expressway will enjoy zero transaction charges (excluding partner fees) until the end of January 2025.
