Absa Kenya appoints Wilson Kahoro Murage as acting company secretary

Absa Kenya has announced the appointment of Wilson Kahoro Murage as the acting company secretary, effective from October 13, 2023. This decision comes following the resignation of Loise Wambui Gakumo, who served as the Company Secretary for Absa Kenya since April 2019.

Mr. Murage’s appointment is pending regulatory approval, and he will assume the role until a permanent successor is found. The move is set to maintain the company’s stability during this transitional period.

Wilson Kahoro Murage brings a wealth of experience and qualifications to his new position. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree and a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree in International Trade and Investments Law from the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with 17 years of experience, a registered Certified Public Secretary, and a member of both the Law Society of Kenya and the Institute of Certified Secretaries.

He has also completed a postgraduate diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law and holds a practicing certificate as a company secretary issued under the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act (Chapter 534, Laws of Kenya).

The Board Chairman, Charles Muchene, expressed the Board of Directors’ delight in welcoming Mr. Murage to the company.

Loise Wambui Gakumo, who served as the outgoing Company Secretary, was commended for her dedication and service during her four-and-a-half-year tenure. Her tenure was marked by significant milestones, including the corporate rebranding of Absa Kenya, navigating the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and overseeing a recent leadership transition.

The appointment of Wilson Kahoro Murage as the acting Company Secretary signifies Absa Kenya’s commitment to ensuring leadership continuity amidst a challenging operating environment for banks in the country.
