Absa Bank Kenya has partnered with Visa to provide convenient digital payment solutions to both small and medium-sized traders through the Absa Mobi Tap Solution, which will see merchants accept card payments from customers via their smartphones. This is in line with the shared goal for both companies of offering contactless payments and expanding financial access to both consumers and traders through technology. Once the trader downloads the Absa Mobi Tap Solution mobile application, they will use their phone as a point-of-sale device to tap the contactless card on the back of the smartphone. This payment method is set to revolutionize the purchasing process from traditional point-of-sale devices and make the process seamless and quick.

Absa Mobi Tap Solution is staged as a perfect replacement for mobile operators who previously relied on electric fund transfers like bank payments. The app is mostly tailored to enhance financial inclusivity by offering underbanked groups like small businesses access to digital pay while maximizing the widespread use of mobile phones in Kenya. This is an addition to the recent introduction of the Kenya QR Code (KE-QR) released by the Central Bank of Kenya in May 2023, which will promote customer convenience and security by hastening online payments for businesses that accept digital payments.
