Embedded insurance gains momentum as Jubilee expands digital health cover

Jubilee Health Insurance has announced a strategic partnership with Singapore-headquartered technology firm Embedded Health to expand access to health insurance through embedded insurance solutions. The collaboration is expected to transform the way health insurance is distributed by integrating insurance products directly into digital platforms that consumers already use in their daily lives. Rather than requiring customers to visit insurance offices or complete lengthy application processes, the partnership seeks to make health insurance more accessible, convenient, and affordable through seamless digital experiences.

Embedded insurance is an emerging distribution model that incorporates insurance products into the purchase of another product or service. For example, a customer purchasing goods on credit, booking transport services, or using a financial platform can also obtain health insurance during the same transaction. By embedding insurance into existing digital ecosystems, providers can reach customers at the exact point where they are making financial decisions, significantly reducing the barriers associated with traditional insurance distribution.

According to Jubilee Health, the initiative is designed to improve healthcare protection among populations that have historically been underserved by conventional insurance channels. The company noted that digital adoption in Kenya has created an opportunity to offer insurance products through platforms such as banks, petrol stations, retailers, digital marketplaces, and payment applications. Customers will be able to purchase health cover with minimal paperwork, in some cases completing the process with a single click.

The partnership also reflects changing consumer preferences, particularly among younger and digitally connected populations who increasingly expect financial services to be integrated into the platforms they use every day. Jubilee Health’s Chief Executive Officer, Julius Kimani, observed that mobile technology and digital financial services have significantly influenced consumer behaviour in Kenya. He noted that healthcare protection should be readily available wherever people already live, work, and transact, making insurance a natural extension of existing digital services.

Jubilee Kenya’s largest health insurer by market share, with approximately 14.08% as at the first quarter of 2026, believes the partnership will support greater insurance penetration by making coverage easier to access. The company expects the embedded insurance model to benefit individuals, businesses, and platform providers by creating additional value within existing customer journeys while simplifying the purchasing process.

The collaboration will be supported by an API-driven platform developed by Embedded Health, enabling businesses to integrate Jubilee’s insurance products into their digital platforms without requiring extensive technical development. The initial rollout will focus on Jubilee’s Hospital Cash product, which provides daily cash benefits during hospitalisation. Following the launch, the partners intend to expand the embedded insurance offering to include additional health insurance products. Through this partnership, Jubilee aims to strengthen financial protection against healthcare costs while supporting broader health insurance coverage across Kenya through technology-driven innovation.
