Inside Japheth Koome’s KSh89 Million Assets

Japheth Koome Nchebere, newly appointed Inspector General revealed his net worth as Ksh89.9 million while appearing before the parliamentary committee on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

Koome, categorized his wealth into several sections, including a plot of land at his rural home, cars, stock investments, and cash savings.

“I have an account where my salary goes,” Koome explained.

“The land in my rural home is about seven acres. I have two plots of land within my rural home market centre. I also have a plot of land in Nairobi, and that is where I currently live, and two other plots in Kitengela, which I bought through Police Sacco,” Koome explained.

He went on to say that he is a dedicated farmer and thus acquired two truckers to help him with his agricultural errands.

“I have a capital share of 57,000 in Police Sacco. I have vehicles, and two tractors because farming is my hobby. In terms of land, I have 37 acres, Out of farming produce, I generate Ksh9 million annually. However, he clarified that he has a loan liability of Ksh1.1 million.

President William Ruto appointed Japhet Koome on September 27, 2022, to succeed Hillary Mutyambai, who resigned and proceeded to take a terminal following health complications.

“After discussions with Mutyambai and in consideration of his service to the nation and his health, I have accepted that he will proceed on terminal leave in the six months that he has on his contract,” said Ruto.

Japheth Koome, who is also a civil engineer was previously, the police regional commander for Nairobi. He also held the position of Sub-County Police Commander at Nairobi’s Central Police Station.

Following his tenure as the head of the Nairobi regional police, Koome was transferred to Police Headquarters, where he worked as Edward Mbugua’s chief deputy.
