The electoral process for Kenya’s nationwide by-elections began on Thursday, November 27, 2025, after the electoral management body announced that all logistical arrangements were complete.

According to the IEBC, ballots, voting kits and other essential materials have been distributed to all polling stations, polling officials have been trained and sworn in, and security personnel deployed to safeguard the process. Voting stations are scheduled to open at 6:00 am and close at 5:00 pm -though voters already in queue at closing time will still be allowed to cast their ballots.

The by-elections are taking place across more than 20 electoral areas nationwide, covering National Assembly, Senate and County Assembly seats left vacant through resignations, deaths, or other causes. A total of 181 candidates are contesting for the available positions, making the mini-polls highly competitive.

Security agencies have pledged impartiality throughout the voting process. Meanwhile, the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has urged authorities and political actors to uphold human-rights standards, avoid intimidation, and ensure a transparent process. The commission encouraged voters to report any incidents of electoral malpractice or violence.
