President William Ruto has set tough conditions to be followed by the newly sworn-in Cabinet Secretaries.

Speaking at Statehouse on Thursday, October 27, 2022, Ruto emphasized the need to uphold the oath of office. He clarified that one of the primary elements of the oath was providing services to Kenyans.

The president cautioned against showing favouritism to family and friends, pointing out that positions in government required expertise.

“I have listened to you carefully, and you have sworn to serve the people, I did not hear anyone swear to serve their friends, families, or religions. That is the minimum expected of all of us,” he said.

He also urged the families of the Cabinet Secretaries to have patience with his cabinet, saying that the majority would put in extra effort to see that the Kenya Kwanza agenda was carried through.

The head of state pledged to be firm with his Cabinet in that regard while quoting a verse from the Bible.

“I will conclude James 4:17, which says he who knows what is right and doesn’t do it, it is counted to them as a sin. Good people we have agreed on what is right, so if you don’t do it you will not only miss heaven but you will also have a problem with me,” added Ruto.

Additionally, he urged the Cabinet Secretaries to maintain an open door policy and be accessible to hear about the issues Kenyans were facing. He also encouraged the 22 CSs to watch out for one another and to correct each other when they made mistakes in their ministries.

“I want to plead with you. We have an agenda for the whole country and the people of Kenya are very expectant on the delivery of our plan, program, and the transformation of our nation,” Ruto said.
