The Government of Kenya has reported the recovery of two bodies following the Todonyang cross-border attack along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, as efforts to locate missing persons intensify.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed that the bodies of a man and a woman, aged between their late 20s and early 30s, had been recovered.
Further emphasizing the gravity of the situation, Murkomen stated, “The Government stands in solidarity with those who have lost their loved ones and those whose family members are still unaccounted for.”
Efforts to locate missing persons have been hindered by poor communication on the Ethiopian side, but the Kenyan government remains committed to the operation. Murkomen acknowledged these challenges, saying, “While poor communication on the Ethiopian side is compounding the search and rescue efforts, I commend officials from the two countries for their commitment, and appeal to the families involved for calm and patience as the operation continues.”
In a notable development, the Ethiopian government has granted Kenyan officials full access to the search area, facilitating efforts to recover missing individuals and boats. Murkomen expressed gratitude for this cooperation, stating, “I also thank the Ethiopian government for allowing our officials full access to the area, which has aided the recovery and the continued search for the missing persons and boats.”
The Kenyan government has assured the public that every effort is being made to account for all missing individuals while continuing diplomatic engagement with Ethiopia to restore lasting peace and cohesion in the region.
“We will give more updates on the progress of the search and rescue efforts once we receive more developments,” Murkomen concluded.
