OPPO responds to allegations of unpaid influencers in Reno12 campaign

OPPO Kenya has addressed allegations from influencers who claim they have not been paid for their work on the Reno12 series campaign. Influencers, including Bernice Nunah and content creator Flaqo, accused OPPO Kenya and influencer marketing agency AIfluence of failing to process their payments despite fulfilling their promotional duties.

Flaqo revealed that his team attended OPPO Kenya’s AI event in August 2024 and produced three months’ worth of content within two weeks. However, five months later, he stated that neither OPPO Kenya nor AIfluence had processed their payments. His complaint reflects a broader frustration among other influencers involved in the campaign.

In response, OPPO Kenya issued a statement confirming its awareness of the influencers’ concerns. The company clarified that AIfluence was solely responsible for managing influencer contracts, deliverables, and payments as the agency overseeing the campaign. “It is important to note that all influencers in this campaign signed direct contracts with the agency and not OPPO Kenya,” the statement read.

OPPO Kenya assured that it had fulfilled all financial obligations to AIfluence, including making an initial 50% down payment at the start of the campaign and the final 50% payment on October 25, 2024. The company emphasized that its payment commitments were met, and that AIfluence had received the funds in full.

Despite these assurances, OPPO Kenya acknowledged the situation and expressed empathy for the influencers. The company extended legal support to any affected influencer, including covering legal fees for those wishing to pursue action against AIfluence. However, no influencers had opted to use this support.

In a further development, OPPO Kenya has initiated legal proceedings against AIfluence, citing defamation and brand damage caused by the agency’s failure to pay the influencers. “OPPO Kenya does not condone the frustrations that influencers engaged in the Reno12 series campaign are facing,” the company said.

As the situation unfolds, OPPO Kenya remains committed to assisting the influencers, while the legal process against AIfluence continues.
