Moses Kuria, President William Ruto’s Economic Advisor, has called on the President, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to initiate a new constitutional review process. Kuria’s comments, made on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, stressed the urgency of addressing Kenya’s political divisions and challenges through a renewed focus on constitutional reform.

In his personal statement, Kuria acknowledged the efforts of President Ruto’s recent diplomatic outreach and Kenyatta’s willingness to engage in reconciliation. However, he emphasized that Kenya cannot rely solely on political handshakes to resolve the country’s deep-rooted issues.

“We can no longer depend on handshakes and personal meetings to make us feel safe in our country,” Kuria stated, referring to the frequent political meetings and alliances. “The frequent handshakes and artificial formations have vindicated President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Raila on the BBI initiative.”

Kuria, reflecting on the failed Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), urged the three leaders to reconsider the initiative, suggesting that the BBI’s foundation could be built upon to address the country’s evolving needs. “I urge President Ruto, President Kenyatta and Prime Minister Odinga to close ranks and lead the nation in picking from where BBI flopped and give this country a Constitution that speaks to the emerging realities of our nation and our society. BBI Season 2 is urgent and cannot wait,” he said.

Additionally, Kuria touched on the political tensions within the Central region, particularly following the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. He underscored the need for Mt. Kenya to establish a united political voice, admitting that leaving the Jubilee Party was a mistake. “It was a mistake to leave the Jubilee Party. However, it is not too late,” Kuria stated.

Kuria revealed plans to unite political forces in the region, particularly under the leadership of former President Kenyatta. “We will now embark on bringing all the political parties with a footing in the region together under the Jubilee Party,” he announced
