Cabinet Secretaries who served since former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s first term in office are exiting with a gratuity of Ksh. 20.8 million each.

The six, James Macharia, Raychelle Omamo,  Adan Mohamed, Amina Mohamed, Fred Matiang’i and Najib Balala, assumed office in 2013.

The calculation for their gratuity was arrived at as per the gazette notice by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission,SRC, stating that the CSs should be paid a total of 31 per cent of their annual income for every year served.

“A State officer serving on fixed term shall serve on contract and be paid a service gratuity at the end of the term at the rate of 31 per cent of annual basic pay for every year served,” stated SRC.

On the other hand, CSs who earned joined Uhuru’s cabinet in 2017 are set to get an amount in the region of Ksh. 10.5 million each.

However, the CSs gratuities are far less than what other state officers, such as the president, gets when exiting the office.

In addition to the monthly payment, the President, Deputy President, Chief Justice and Speakers of parliament exit with hefty perks, including vehicles and assistance personnel.

For instance, Uhuru is set to get a lump sum of about Ksh. 39 million plus monthly pensions of Ksh 1.2 million in addition to the benefits such as diplomatic passport and VIP treatment.
