Machakos Deputy Governor, Francis Mwangangi, has declared a strict stance against counterfeit products in the county, warning that these illegal activities are damaging the local economy and undermining legitimate businesses.

Speaking at the opening of the Mabati Rolling Mills showroom, Mwangangi emphasized the urgent need to tackle the growing menace of counterfeit goods, which he said deprive legal investors of profits and harm job creation.

“We will deal with those involved in counterfeits ruthlessly. We shouldn’t kill legitimate investments due to those selling counterfeit products,” Mwangangi asserted.

The Deputy Governor pointed out that counterfeiters typically target fast-moving consumer goods such as electronics, motor vehicle parts, food, beverages, and luxury items

. The Anti-Counterfeit Authority has also flagged these categories as being heavily impacted by illegal trade. These counterfeit goods, often sold at lower prices, have a direct negative impact on businesses that adhere to the law, forcing them to compete unfairly.

Mwangangi assured that the Machakos County government would collaborate closely with national authorities to combat the influx of contraband and counterfeit goods. He urged those involved in such activities to cease their operations within the county or face severe consequences.

“Let them sell elsewhere, but legitimate investors pay taxes, create jobs, and contribute to the economy, while counterfeiters simply seek quick profits,” Mwangangi said.
