Kisii Governor Simba Arati has received a significant boost in his quest to become deputy leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) with the endorsement of 21 ODM branch chairmen.
The endorsement, which emerged from a recent meeting of the branch chairmen, aims to enhance Arati’s stature within ODM and align with the party’s broader objective of reinforcing its leadership framework. The chairmen voiced strong support for Arati, citing his leadership qualities and commitment to the party’s principles.
“Governor Arati’s vision and leadership capabilities are exemplary,” remarked one of the branch chairmen. “His unwavering dedication to ODM and his extensive public service record make him the ideal candidate for the deputy leader role.”
Arati’s ascent within the party comes amid a broader reshuffling within ODM under the guidance of party leader Raila Odinga. Recent changes to the National Executive Committee (NEC) have seen several new appointments, including Arati’s elevation to deputy national chairperson, succeeding Janet Ong’era, who resigned from ODM last November.
Other notable appointments include Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo as deputy secretary general and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi as deputy organizing secretary. These changes are part of ODM’s strategy to revitalize its leadership and bolster its position ahead of grassroots elections scheduled for early next year.
“These appointments are integral to our strategy to rejuvenate the party and prepare for future challenges,” stated a senior ODM official. “Governor Arati and the newly appointed members will be instrumental in advancing the party’s agenda and reinforcing its status as a major political force.”
