How Kenyan Nurses Swindled US State Ksh. 12 Billion

Detectives in the United States have unearthed a scandal where two Kenyan nurses were involved in a  conspiration that swindled Boston State $100 million in healthcare fraud.

The duo, Faith Newton, 52, and Winnie Waruru, 42, is accused of siphoning money from MassHealth and Medicare, a health program by Boston State meant to provide healthcare coverage to persons with low-income levels.

Using Arbor Homecare Services LLC, a care provider partly owned by Newton, the duo is said to have been paying kickbacks to earn referrals to the care company while retaining patients for five years and above.

The Kenyans have also been living an exorbitant lifestyle, with one of them driving a range rover and the other a Maserati.

Reports also say the two owned several multimillion properties and operated more than 40 bank accounts.

The two were arraigned in court on September 8, 2022, with Waruru pleading guilty to the six counts related to the scandalous deal. Newton denied the charges and the case is set to continue.

Waruru’s sentencing is scheduled for January 2023, with a possibility of being struck with 10 years in jail for every count plus fines.
