The Amani National Congress (ANC) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have announced a significant merger aimed at fostering national unity and enhancing democratic governance in Kenya. The announcement was made at a high-profile meeting hosted by President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi.

Leading figures from both parties, including ANC Party Leader Issa Timamy, National Chairman Kevin Lunani, and Secretary General Omboko Milemba, joined UDA’s National Chairperson Cecily Mbarire and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, to discuss and formalize the merger.

The consolidation is expected to streamline political operations and improve service delivery across Kenya. President Ruto emphasized that the merger is part of a broader strategy to maintain economic reforms despite current challenges.

The merger, long discussed between President Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, underscores a commitment to building a cohesive political front.

Mudavadi, the former ANC Party Leader and now Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, highlighted the necessity of forming inclusive alliances to fortify democracy in Kenya. “This unification is driven by the need to forge closer national and all-inclusive alliances,” Mudavadi noted.

A joint implementation committee composed of political and legal experts from both parties will expedite the merger process. This committee aims to leverage the combined strengths and resources of ANC and UDA to create a robust political entity capable of addressing Kenya’s national challenges more effectively.

The merger’s announcement was attended by various dignitaries, including Senate Deputy Speaker Kathure Murungi and several Members of Parliament.
