Roam has teamed up with QuickMart to roll out a network of charging stations for electric motorcycles across the country. The partnership aims to address the critical need for accessible charging infrastructure, which has been a major barrier to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles, particularly in urban areas.
Roam’s innovative Roam Hub charging stations are designed to be versatile and compatible with various electric vehicle models, from motorcycles to bicycles. These open-technology stations can be installed at any location, making them an ideal solution for addressing the charging gap in densely populated areas where traditional charging infrastructure may be challenging to establish.
The company has already deployed four operational Roam Hub charging stations in Nairobi, which have facilitated over 4,000 charging and rental transactions to date. These stations have collectively sold more than 10 megawatt-hours of energy, powering over 250,000 electric kilometers across the city and creating over 20 jobs in the process.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with QuickMart to bring the Roam Hub Charging Center to their premises,” said Habib Lukaya, Energy & Charging Product Manager at Roam. “This partnership not only enhances the accessibility of electric vehicle charging but also aligns with our commitment to integrating sustainable solutions into everyday life.”
Jacques Dome, Deputy CEO at QuickMart, echoed this sentiment, stating, “As a forward-thinking retail chain, we are excited to partner with Roam to provide our customers with the convenience of electric motorcycle charging.”
The initial phase of the partnership will see the installation of charging stations at select QuickMart locations, with plans to expand to additional stores in the coming months. This initiative not only benefits electric motorcycle riders by providing convenient charging options but also presents an opportunity for QuickMart to tap into the growing sustainable mobility market and attract environmentally conscious customers.
By leveraging QuickMart’s extensive network of retail locations, the partnership promises to make electric vehicle charging more accessible and convenient, thereby promoting a thriving sustainable economy and contributing to the country’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
