Fire breaks out at Nacico building in Nairobi CBD

Fire broke out at the Nacico Chambers Building in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Monday afternoon, according to reports. The fire erupted in one of the shops within the building, situated near Imenti House according to reports.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries at the time of publication. Upon receiving notification of the incident, firefighters and Nairobi County askaris, commonly referred to as kanjos, promptly arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. The area was cordoned off by the police in collaboration with other relevant authorities.

However, efforts to combat the fire were hindered by a gathering crowd of onlookers. Consequently, businesses adjacent to the affected building were compelled to close temporarily to facilitate the authorities’ response.

While speaking to one media outlet, Nairobi County Disaster Management Officer, Bramwell Simiyu, Nairobi County Disaster Management Officer, informed one , that the county routinely deals with approximately two fire incidents daily.

Notably, the most significant recent incident transpired at the outset of February 2024, when an illegal gas refilling plant exploded in Embakasi, resulting in a massive fire that affected nearby structures.

This explosion led to the displacement of numerous residents, many of whom sought shelter at the Embakasi Social Hall. A total of 761 individuals were impacted by the incident, with 13 fatalities and several injuries reported.
