Kenya Railways has issued a public statement alerting people of  scammers claiming to be its representatives and offering to sell SGR passenger tickets.

In a statement  released on Thursday ,the organization stated that the scammers sell tickets at prices, higher than Kenya Railways’ official ticket prices.

It maintains that tickets for travel on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service can only be purchased online through the KRC tickets platform or over the phone using the *639# USSD payment solution, or in person through an over-the-counter purchase at the closest station. It has issued a warning to Kenyans not to fall victim to scammers.

“All tickets for travel on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service trains are collected at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station,” KR said in the statement.

“You will print at the automatic ticket printing machines or it will be issued at the counter by a uniformed Passenger Service Assistant. Never accept a ticket from a stranger,” it warned.

Additionally, the management stressed that Madaraka Express Passenger Service tickets are issued in the name of a specific passenger and cannot be transferred to another individual. They went on to say that the only person who can use the ticket is the one whose information is on it.

It’s crucial that the names on the identification papers and the ticket exactly match.

“No one from the company has been designated to sell tickets on our behalf. not communicate with anyone attempting to sell you tickets through any other channels than those mentioned above.

This occurs at the same time that the new train fare rates are anticipated to go into effect on January 1, 2024.
