Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu will be announcing the form one placement for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates at Lenana School, Nairobi, today.

The placement exercise was carried out for two weeks after the announcement of the KCPE results last month.

Machogu is also expected to hold a meeting with regional and county directors of education at the same venue. While speaking at Mitihani house during the KCPE results announcement, Machogu asserted that the selection will be free, fair, and transparent.

This year, 1,406,557 candidates took the KCPE exam. The best candidate scored 428 marks. He added that there were only two reported cases of malpractice.

The Ministry announced that all candidates who received 400 or more will be chosen to enroll in national schools. 8,523 applicants received scores higher than 400.

Those candidates who scored between 300 and 399 marks were 352,782 candidates. At the same time, the 200–299 bracket had the most candidates at 658,278, while 38,3025 others scored between 100 and 199 marks. Those with less than 99 marks were 2,060, accounting for 0.15 percent of the lot.

As the education sector moves toward a competency-based curriculum (CBC), this cohort will be the last to learn under the 8-4-4 curriculum.
