The International Rescue Committee (IRC), the LEGO Foundation, and the Grundfos Foundation have unveiled TeachWell, an innovative Teacher Professional Development program designed to support educators in both refugee and host communities in Kenya.

The initiative adopts a groundbreaking ‘learning through play’ methodology, aligning with Kenya’s recently implemented Competence Based Curriculum.

“Expanding on the successes of the PlayMatters and Play Well programs in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, we are thrilled to extend our partnership with the LEGO Foundation into Kenya. With the added support from the Grundfos Foundation, we are taking a significant stride in addressing the educational needs of refugee children in the region. TeachWell represents not only an advancement in educational methods but a complete reinvention of the learning experience for children, incorporating proven practices with innovative approaches,” stated David Miliband, President, and CEO of the IRC.

The LEGO Foundation’s commitment to improving mental health and psychosocial support within Kenya’s education system through TeachWell aligns with global initiatives such as the Global Refugee Forum and the Global Compact for Refugee outcomes. The initiative’s foundation lies in learning through play, supported by evidence showcasing its efficacy in enhancing socio-emotional skills and overall well-being, especially for children facing adversity.
