2023 School Calendar Released-What You Need To Know

The 2023 school calendar (2023 term dates) for all primary and secondary schools in Kenya has been made public by the ministry of education on  Friday, January 6, 2023.

All students will begin classes on January 23, 2023, at the start of term one. students will take a 3-day half-term break on March 23, 2023, to March 26, 2023. The term will end on April 22, 2023, after a duration of 13 weeks.

According to the Ministry, the change in term dates is an effort to restore order to the school calendar after the covid 19 pandemic disrupted it.

“Following the stakeholders’ consultation, the revised term dates were agreed on in order to cover the remaining two terms of the 2020 school calendar and stabilize the calendar by December 2020.” Read the statement in part.

The second term will then start on May 8, 2023, lasting thirteen weeks until students leave for a brief break. The second session’s half-term break was slated to begin on June 29, 2023, and last for three days until July 2, 2023.

Students are anticipated to have a holiday starting on August 8 and lasting until August 28 of the following year, during the final two weeks of the second term.

Candidates sitting the Kenya Certificate for Primary Education will take their exams between November 6, 2023, and November 9, 2023, during the third term, which will last ten weeks.

Candidates sitting the Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) will take their exams between November 10, 2023, and December 1, 2023, over a three-week period.

Exam marking for the Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) will take place from December 4 through December 22, 2023.
