Kenyan Marathon and World Record holder Kelvin Kiptum, along with his coach, tragically passed away on Sunday, February 11, leaving a lasting impact on the community. The government and other supporters have rallied to assist his widow and children during this challenging period.

The lone survivor of the accident, Sharon Kosgey, has provided a statement to the police as investigations into the incident continue. She recounted the moments leading up to the crash, emphasizing that the vehicle appeared to be in proper working order until the fatal event occurred.

Sharon informed authorities that she alerted Kiptum, who was driving, when the vehicle started veering off the road. Despite her warning, Kiptum was unable to regain control before it was too late.

DCI officers overseeing the investigation have pledged to gather additional information regarding Kiptum’s final moments from those who were nearby. The findings will be shared with the public upon completion of the inquiry.

President William Ruto has directed experts to construct a three-bedroom house for Kiptum’s family before his scheduled burial on February 24. Construction will commence promptly, following consultations with the family to ensure timely completion.

In an emotional statement to the media, Kiptum’s widow mentioned his commitment to providing a home for his family, revealing that he had already made architectural plans for the project.

As part of the investigative process, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have interviewed three unidentified men who visited Kiptum’s family days before his demise. These individuals claimed to represent a Chinese company interested in collaborating with the marathon star, asserting that their intentions were beneficial to the family’s welfare.
