Uasin Gishu County’s Deputy Governor, John Barorot, will step down from his position effective August 31, 2024, to assume a new role as Chief Executive Officer of an international ICT organization. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for the county, following two years of notable development under his tenure.
At a press conference held today, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii announced Barorot’s upcoming exit, expressing both regret and support for his decision. Governor Bii lauded Barorot’s contributions to the county’s growth, particularly highlighting his role in the successful elevation of Eldoret to city status.
“We deeply appreciate Engineer Barorot’s commitment and invaluable input during his tenure,” said Governor Bii. “His decision to pursue new opportunities outside the public sector is respected. His departure will be a loss to our local administration, but we wish him success in his new international role.”
Barorot, a seasoned ICT professional, has been instrumental in implementing key technological advancements in the county. His role in driving the digital transformation of Uasin Gishu, including the introduction of an upgraded revenue management system, has been a significant part of his legacy.
Reflecting on his time in office, Barorot shared his enthusiasm for the future of ICT and its potential impact globally. “The opportunity to lead an international ICT organization aligns with my long-term passion for digital transformation,” he explained. “Having been in the ICT field for over 30 years, witnessing the evolution from analog to digital, and now the advent of artificial intelligence, this new role will allow me to contribute to a major global transformation.”
Barorot’s departure follows a period of intense discussions about his career move. Despite rumors and speculation, both he and Governor Bii assured the public that the decision was mutually agreed upon and will benefit both Barorot’s career and the county’s continued development.
Governor Bii reassured residents that the county government’s development agenda will remain on course. “We are committed to maintaining the momentum of our development projects,” Bii stated. “As we prepare to nominate a new deputy governor, we are confident in our ability to continue advancing our goals for the benefit of Uasin Gishu.”
The governor further emphasized the collaborative spirit of the county’s leadership, noting that the transition is being managed with transparency and respect for Barorot’s contributions. “This is a well-considered decision,” Bii said. “We are thankful for Engineer Barorot’s service and are excited about the new opportunities that lie ahead for both him and the county.”
As Uasin Gishu transitions to its new status as a city, Barorot’s legacy will be marked by his role in this historic achievement. Governor Bii acknowledged the positive impacts of Barorot’s work and the professional growth he has fostered within the county’s administration.
In his farewell remarks, Barorot expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and the support received from his colleagues and the public. “Working in public service has been a remarkable journey,” he said. “The experiences and lessons learned will remain with me as I move forward to contribute to the global ICT sector.”
The governor concluded the conference with a promise to expeditiously nominate a new deputy governor, ensuring a smooth transition and continued focus on Uasin Gishu’s development objectives. “Our commitment to progress remains steadfast,” Bii affirmed. “We will continue to build on the solid foundation that has been laid.”
