The tragic demise of University of Nairobi Political Science Lecturer Dr. Samuel Mbutu Mararo, has been attributed to fatal blunt force trauma to his head, according to an autopsy report.
Dr. Mararo, aged 37, suffered two head injuries, along with neck bruises indicating a mugging during the fatal assault. His brother, John Kagiri, confirmed the details, asserting that the pathologist concluded these injuries led to his death.
The assault occurred on the night of February 19, as Dr. Mararo arrived at the Machakos Country Bus Station during a visit to his family in the capital. The University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus lecturer is said to have been travelling from Kisumu. He met his demise after he was attacked upon alighting from the bus.
Subsequently, Dr. Mararo’s body, initially reported missing, was discovered at the City Mortuary on February 27. Authorities revealed that the body had been taken to the mortuary on February 20, following its discovery at the bus stop, where it had been left without identification.
The delay in investigating his disappearance has drawn criticism towards officers at the Kamukunji police station, accused of neglecting immediate action upon the family’s report.
The perpetrators of this heinous crime made away with Dr. Mararo’s belongings, including his laptop, mobile phone, and cash. Additionally, they managed to access his Mpesa account, conducting transactions in Kayole. Despite these developments, no arrests have been made thus far.
Nairobi area police boss Adamson Bungei assured the public that a dedicated team is actively pursuing leads related to the murder and robbery, seeking justice for Dr. Mararo and his bereaved family.
