The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed that investigations are underway following an alleged shooting incident in Shauri Moyo on March 4, 2025. According to a statement released by the NPS, a police officer suspected of involvement has been identified and interdicted as investigations continue.

“Upon receipt of the report, the police commenced investigations immediately and identified a police officer suspected of involvement in the incident,” the statement read. Authorities took immediate action, including disarming and interdicting the officer, while also notifying the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in line with legal procedures.

The NPS assured the public that “further open and transparent investigations are being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Internal Affairs Unit.” The service urged residents, particularly the youth in the affected area, to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any relevant information.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny of police conduct in Kenya, with human rights groups consistently calling for accountability in cases of alleged misconduct. The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding law and order, emphasizing that due process would be followed.
