Safaricom launches cloud computing platform to digitize businesses

Safaricom has launched a revamped in-country cloud computing platform and services, to help businesses and organizations digitize their operations.

Through this  initiative, Safaricom  aims to empower businesses and organizations by offering them the tools to digitize their operations while enhancing resilience and flexibility in the business sector that is always changing.

These new cloud services are hosted in Safaricom’s data centers located in Nairobi and Kisumu and are powered by VMware technologies. Features of the new service include the ability for customers to run their applications with the flexibility to allocate cloud computing capabilities on a single integrated interface and the features allow customers to buy cloud computing capabilities in bulk and set up the environment to suit the business application requirements.

Speaking during the launch, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at Safaricom, Cynthia Karuri-Kropac emphasized Safaricom’s unwavering commitment to facilitating digital transformation in Kenya. She said that the launch signifies a new era of possibilities for businesses as a catalyst for innovation and growth.

“We believe by providing businesses with world class cloud computing capabilities, we empower them to unlock new opportunities, thrive in the digital age and achieve their growth aspirations more efficiently and cost effectively. Today’s launch aligns with our mission to transform into a purpose-led technology company by the end of 2025,” Cynthia said.

The  cloud services will provide enterprise customers with computing resources in a scalable manner, leveraging OPEX models and it will provide them with the capability to run businesses from anywhere, with access to operations.

The cloud services also include the provision of secure hosting services for business applications while complying with data residency concerns. Furthermore, Safaricom ensures secure connectivity and seamless payment integrations for business applications hosted securely in the cloud.
