The honour follows her widely publicised tree-hugging campaign, which captured national attention and sparked conversations on conservation, sustainability, and innovative approaches to protecting natural resources.Truphena rose to prominence after completing a seventy-two-hour tree-hugging marathon aimed at drawing attention to deforestation and environmental degradation. Her action was symbolic but powerful, resonating with many Kenyans who viewed it as a call for collective responsibility in safeguarding forests and ecosystems for future generations.

He noted that her activism reflects the growing influence of young people in shaping national discourse on environmental protection and sustainable development. As part of the recognition, President Ruto awarded Truphena the Head of State Commendation, acknowledging her contribution to public awareness and environmental advocacy. In addition, he appointed her as an ambassador supporting the national tree planting programme, a key initiative aimed at increasing forest cover and strengthening climate resilience across the country.

In her ambassadorial role, Truphena is expected to engage communities, mobilise youth participation, and promote tree planting and conservation practices. Her appointment reflects an effort to link grassroots activism with national policy objectives, ensuring environmental messages reach schools, households, and local communities.Speaking after receiving the honour, Truphena expressed gratitude for the recognition and support. She described the moment as encouragement to continue advocating for environmental responsibility and emphasised that conservation requires sustained commitment from individuals, institutions, and leadership.President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with young innovators and activists, stating that inclusive participation is essential in addressing climate challenges. He encouraged young Kenyans to take leadership roles in environmental protection and to contribute ideas that support sustainable growth.
