The National Assembly Committee on Appointments on Thursday, January 16, endorsed the nominations of former Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui to President William Ruto’s Cabinet. Kagwe, Kabogo, and Kinyanjui have been proposed to head the ministries of Agriculture, ICT & Digital Economy, and Trade, respectively.

Their approval by the committee marks a significant step toward their formal appointment, pending a final decision by President Ruto. The parliamentary report recommending their approval is scheduled for debate in a special session this afternoon. Once the National Assembly gives its full approval, the names will be forwarded to the president for confirmation.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula recalled Members of Parliament (MPs) from their recess to expedite the review process. The urgency underscores the importance of filling these cabinet roles amid pressing national priorities.

In parallel, the National Assembly Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations has approved Andrew Karanja as Kenya’s Ambassador to Brazil and Ababu Namwamba as Permanent Representative to UNEP and the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). Noor Gabow has also been recommended as Consul-General to Haiti.

Additionally, seven individuals have been approved for appointment to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), including Sammy Chepkwony as Chairperson. Their nominations had faced delays after the committee requested additional time for deliberations last November. With the National Assembly now in session, the SRC appointees, alongside key nominees to other commissions, are set to assume their roles.
