The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yusuf Hussein Ahmed has taken a new twist after DNA testing confirmed that the body retrieved from Lake Yahud is not his. The family announced on Thursday that results from two DNA tests, conducted independently by a government pathologist and a private specialist, found no match with Ahmed’s relatives.

“The results show that the body is not his,” a family representative shared. DNA samples had been collected from Ahmed’s mother and two brothers and compared with tissue from the unidentified body currently held at the Wajir Hospital Mortuary. The body, identified as Somali and measuring six feet two inches, remains unclaimed, adding to the ongoing investigation.

Pathologists confirmed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the face, leading to fatal internal bleeding in the head. While decomposition had affected some areas, pathologists noted that there were no visible signs of burns or mutilation.

Ahmed, the MCA for Della Anole Ward, vanished on September 13 in Nairobi, reportedly after being abducted by unknown men. According to taxi driver Wambua Kioko, armed men in two unmarked Toyota Land Cruiser Prados intercepted their vehicle and forcibly removed Ahmed. The incident has raised significant public concern in Wajir, with residents protesting against local security agencies and demanding urgent answers.

In a recent statement, Ahmed’s family disclosed that he had been summoned to meet with the Wajir County Security and Intelligence Committee (CSIC) before his disappearance. A letter dated August 6, 2024, purportedly signed by County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo, called Ahmed to discuss “security issues.” However, Ngumo has since refuted these claims, stating he did not request Ahmed’s presence at the committee meeting.

“The identity of the body found in Wajir remains unresolved,” noted a family member. “Our only concern now is to bring our son home and find answers to what happened.”
