Police in Kisumu have arrested Ronald Liwind, also known as Ronny, in connection with the stabbing death of a General Service Unit (GSU) officer over the weekend. The officer, Calvince Omondi, was brutally attacked in the Manyatta slums of Kisumu Central sub-county on Sunday night.

Ronny was apprehended at his rural home in Asembo, Siaya County, where he had fled after the incident. According to police, a multi-agency team is still searching for his accomplice, David Nyeuse, who remains at large.

“We have arrested the main suspect, Ronald Liwind, who is believed to be directly involved in the murder of the GSU officer,” said Kisumu County Police Commander, Alphonse Kimanthi. “We are working tirelessly to bring his accomplice to justice.”

Authorities recovered crude weapons and jungle uniforms during Ronny’s arrest, indicating possible premeditation. He is currently being held at Kondele Police Station and is expected to be charged with murder.

The incident occurred when Omondi, who was based in West Pokot, had returned home while off duty. He was stabbed multiple times under unclear circumstances, leading to his death. Another man who was with him narrowly escaped death but sustained stab wounds.

“We are still investigating the motive behind the attack,” added Commander Kimanthi. “We urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the second suspect to come forward.”

The murder has shocked the local community, with residents calling for swift justice. “Omondi was a dedicated officer, and his death is a great loss to the community,” said a local elder.
