The nominees for the 11-member committee tasked with investigating the allegations against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi have been revealed in Parliament.

The decision to form this committee came after the House’s resolution on Thursday to pass a Special Motion for the removal of Linturi as the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development.

The selection process was based on the proportional representation of parties in the House, with Kenya Kwanza submitting six names, Azimio four, and Jubilee one. The motion garnered 149 votes in favor, with 36 opposing it and three abstentions.

The Order paper outlines the approved members of the Select Committee, with Kenya Kwanza’s nominees including Naomi Waqo, Samuel Chepkonga, George Murungara, Jane Maina, Moses Injendi, and Kassim Tandaza. Azimio’s nominees consist of Robert Mbui, TJ Kajwang, Catherine Omanyo, and Yusuf Farah, while Rachael Nyamai represents Jubilee party.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula emphasized the importance of considering regional and gender diversity in the selection process.

The final list of nominees will undergo a voting process, allowing members to either approve the list as is or suggest modifications.

Despite the urgency of the matter, the House is scheduled to begin a month-long recess starting Friday. However, the committee is expected to complete its investigation and report back to the House within 10 days.
