The Kenya National Library Service (KNLS) has recently introduced the nation’s first-ever virtual library, featuring an extensive collection of over 200,000 digitized books, periodicals, research papers, and government publications. Accessible from any internet-enabled device worldwide, the online library also offers downloadable e-books for offline reading convenience.

In addition to the virtual library, KNLS unveiled a state-of-the-art Tier 2 data centre catering to the cloud storage needs of various state agencies and public institutions. Moreover, a digitization hub was introduced, allowing Kenyan citizens to upload their own literary works, records, newspapers, and photographs for preservation and wider dissemination.

The launch ceremony held at Maktaba Kuu was graced by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, who emphasized the significance of technology and innovation in fostering knowledge growth, enhancing Kenya’s global competitiveness, and promoting economic growth and job creation. Namwamba highlighted the potential of the Virtual Library, equipped with a competency-based curriculum (CBC), to assist young learners in identifying their talents and developing them into future career opportunities.
