Equity Bank Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Mwangi’s recent appointment to the Global Board of Advisors of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) represents a significant achievement for the African continent. This prestigious position provides Africa with an influential voice in a global forum that specializes in U.S. foreign policy and international relations, creating opportunities for the continent to share its narrative and perspectives on a larger stage.

Established 12 years ago, the CFR Global Board of Advisors strengthens the organization’s understanding of diverse international perspectives. It facilitates constructive dialogue between U.S. leaders in foreign affairs and their global counterparts, enriching discussions on critical global issues.

“I am honored to join the Council on Foreign Relations Global Board of Advisors and appreciate the opportunity to bring a positive African narrative to the discussions,” said Mwangi. Mwangi also added, “it is an opportunity to highlight Africa’s contributions to the world, both now and in the future, as the continent assumes its rightful place on the global stage. It will pave the way for more meaningful and sustainable collaborations between Africa and the rest of the world.”

The Council on Foreign Relations is an independent, nonpartisan organization based in New York City and Washington, DC. It serves as a thought leader by convening government officials, global business executives, and key figures from the intelligence and foreign policy communities to address international challenges. The CFR also publishes in-depth research on pressing global issues.
