The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary traffic disruption at the Haile Selassie roundabout on Uhuru Highway (A8) to facilitate the construction of a pedestrian underpass. The project is scheduled to begin on Thursday, November 28, 2024, and is expected to be completed by Friday, January 17, 2025.

This construction is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and traffic flow at the busy roundabout. The underpass is intended to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians, aiming to reduce the congestion caused by foot traffic at this location.

Motorists are advised to follow the designated traffic management plan during the construction period. Road users should adhere to the posted road signs and comply with instructions from traffic marshals and police officers who will be stationed at the site. KeNHA has emphasized the need for cooperation to ensure smooth traffic movement during the project.

The authority has urged all road users, including pedestrians, to exercise caution during the construction phase. Pedestrians are advised to use designated crossing points and avoid restricted areas near the construction zone.

KeNHA has stated that the pedestrian underpass will be completed on schedule, and the project is expected to improve safety and ease traffic congestion in the long term. The authority also reminded commuters to stay informed about any changes to the traffic plan to avoid delays.

The construction of the pedestrian underpass is part of KeNHA’s broader initiative to enhance road safety and infrastructure across the country. Once completed, the underpass is expected to provide a safer pedestrian route and improve the overall traffic flow at the Haile Selassie roundabout.

Motorists and pedestrians planning to use the roundabout are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, follow the traffic management guidelines, and be patient during the construction period.
