Dynamic Shift in Kenya’s Tourism Sector from Coastal Beaches to Safari Luxury

Associates in the Safari luxury tourism sector have recorded an increase in bookings prior to the peak seasons as demand for high-end holiday destinations continues to soar. This is a departure from the traditional custom, where luxury was associated with areas such as beaches. Over the years, Tourism authorities and the private sector have mainly invested in marketing the nation to lure most coastal beach lovers. Currently, there has been a changeover where industry players are now diverting luxury into the traditional safari.

Safari luxury tourism in Kenya combines the thrill of wildlife tours with the comfort of high-end accommodations. According to the players in the tourism industry, this is the most promising opportunity, and they have expectations that the opportunity will grow the African tour travel market.

Masai Mara Lodge has experienced high demand, whereby travellers have fully booked the hotel’s 20 tented camps, which accommodate 40 to 45 people and cost approximately Kshs 421,000 per night. The General manager, Mr. Wamoto, noted that the hotel is fully booked for the July to September peak season. Other lodges attracting travellers include the Fairmont Mara Safari Club, Sarova Mara Game Camp, and Sala’s Camp, which are located inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The luxury experience seems to be in high demand in the region, with hotel brands such as JW Marriot International seeking to expand the Safari luxury experience in the East African Region.
