Cape Media Limited, the parent company of the rapidly growing TV47 and Radio47 brands, has appointed highly accomplished media executive Mwenda Njoka as its new Chief Executive Officer. Njoka, a recipient of the prestigious Moran of the Burning Spear national honor, brings over three decades of wide-ranging experience spanning journalism, publishing, broadcasting, and senior leadership roles across Kenya’s media landscape.
With an impressive journalistic pedigree that includes stints as Managing Editor and Associate Editor at the Standard Media Group, where he was named both Kenya Journalist of the Year and Investigative Journalist of the Year, Njoka’s appointment signals Cape Media’s ambitions to solidify its position as a leading multi-platform media company in Kenya and beyond.
“Mwenda’s proven leadership and deep understanding of the media landscape make him ideally suited to steer TV47, Radio47, and our related media platforms towards becoming leading media outlets telling untold stories and tapping youthful talents,” said Prof. Simon N. Gicharu, Chairman of the Cape Media Board, in making the announcement.
After his award-winning tenure at Standard Media Group, Njoka joined Nation Media Group, where his investigative prowess earned him the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year Award for Business reporting. He was also instrumental in creating groundbreaking content at Royal Media Services’ Citizen TV, receiving the Kalasha Award for Best TV Documentary Script.
Most recently, Njoka served as CEO of the Government Press and Government Printer of Kenya. His multifaceted experience also includes a senior role at pay TV provider Zuku TV and an appointment as an Honorary Warden under the Wildlife Conservation Act for the Eastern Conservation Area.
“This appointment comes at a pivotal time for Cape Media,” Prof. Gicharu remarked. “TV47 and Radio47 have become the fastest-growing media brands in Kenya, and Mr. Njoka’s leadership is the next stage in the company’s growth trajectory. The Board is confident that his qualifications and experience will be instrumental in guiding Cape Media towards achieving its full potential.”
Njoka, who holds professional qualifications from South Africa and the United States in addition to Kenyan credentials, is currently pursuing an MBA in Media Leadership. His wide-ranging expertise is expected to drive the company’s ambitious plans, which include promoting the Cape Media Talent Academy to nurture emerging media professionals.
With his unparalleled credentials and Cape Media’s upstart brands rapidly gaining market share, Njoka’s appointment augurs an increasingly competitive media landscape in Kenya focused on delivering innovative, youthful and untold stories to audiences across the region.
