In a bold move to increase accountability and challenge the current administration, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that the opposition coalition, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, will soon establish a shadow Cabinet. The announcement was made during his address at Ufungamano House on August 28, 2024.

Musyoka emphasized that the shadow Cabinet will include representatives from various generations, particularly Gen Z, who have been active in recent protests against the government.

He stated, “The first major announcement we’re going to make from Ufungamano is we’re going to form a shadow Cabinet, na Gen Zs na generation zote mtashirikishwa. We must fight these people from every corner…from every ministry…they will be held accountable.”

The shadow Cabinet will be tasked with monitoring and holding President William Ruto’s Cabinet accountable, ensuring that government actions are in the best interest of Kenyans.

Kalonzo criticized President Ruto’s recent trip to Luo Nyanza, dismissing it as an attempt to win favor despite the president’s declining popularity. “We will fight them at every stage; we will fight them from the mountaintops, the valleys, the street corners…we will not allow them to make this country a Banana Republic,” Musyoka asserted.

This move comes in response to President Ruto’s controversial appointments within his Cabinet, which included leaders from the opposition Azimio-allied Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
