In a strategic move to bolster its e-mobility expansion, BasiGo, a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in Kenya, has joined hands with Rwanda’s AC Mobility, committed to sustainable development and environmental preservation. This collaboration is set to revolutionize the transportation landscape in Rwanda while strengthening BasiGo’s presence in the burgeoning African electric vehicle market.
BasiGo, established in 2021, pioneered electric bus integration in Nairobi’s public transport, supplying 19 electric buses to operators like Embassava, Super Metro, and City Hoppa passenger service vehicle transport SACCOs. Through BasiGo’s Pay-As-You-Drive financing model, the company aims to deliver 200 electric buses to Rwandan bus operators by the end of 2024, driving the country closer to its goal of having at least 20% of public transport buses powered by electricity by 2030.
The partnership aims to introduce a range of eco-friendly electric vehicles to Rwanda’s streets, reducing the nation’s carbon footprint and promoting a greener and cleaner transportation system. Rwanda’s government has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability, making it an ideal fit for BasiGo’s mission to drive global e-mobility adoption.

By leveraging Rwanda’s supportive regulatory environment and infrastructure, BasiGo seeks to expedite the adoption of electric vehicles throughout the country. The partnership will focus on building charging infrastructure, providing incentives for EV adoption, and encouraging local manufacturing and assembly of EV components. This approach not only addresses Rwanda’s transportation needs but also fosters economic growth and job creation in the region.
BasiGo’s cutting-edge electric vehicle technology, coupled with Rwanda’s dedication to sustainability, presents a winning formula for both parties. The company’s vast experience in developing electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and passenger vehicles will cater to Rwanda’s diverse transportation requirements, including last-mile deliveries and public transportation.
