LSK Accuses Land Registry For Surge In Quack Lawyers

LSK on land registry

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Western Kenya Branch has condemned the sluggish operations at the land registry, which they say is to blame for the rise in fake lawyers.

Speaking Wednesday to the media, the society leaders said their work has become difficult as they have to wait for a very long period before they help their clients to complete the land transactions.

As such, quack lawyers have taken advantage of the slow pace to promise clients faster transactions which end up unsuccessful and Kenyans lose their money.

“For you to come to court, you need documentation to prove either ownership of land or you did an agreement that was not honoured, and if you are not able to procure the same from the land, then you will be held back.” said one of the LSK members.

Western branch LSK chai-person George Murunga said that unsuspecting rural citizens were being conned by these lawyers due to ignorance and sometimes conviction from the fake attorneys.

“With the voice that the law society of Kenya has, you can imagine what is happening to an individual in the village who has no access to the fourth estate,” said Murunga.

The lawyers from the western counties said the only way to flash out the fraudsters is to have the land registry hasten the processing of documentation to help lawyers clear their clients expeditiously.
