Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has said his ministry intends to initiate a raft of measures at the Postal Kenya Corporation to return it to profit-making ways.

Speaking during a familiarization visit to the Corporation headquarters in Nairobi, Mr. Owalo said the corporation’s manner of operation is way behind time, calling for the modernization of its systems to make it competitive.

“Having not read the signs, or having read the signs but not adjusted in a timely manner, the corporation is clearly in the grip of stiff competition from the private sector,” said Mr. Owalo.

Owalo added that the private sector deprived the corporation of its competitive edge due to the failure to make use of the evolving demands of the market.

He revealed his planned interventions, both short-term and long-term, which are aimed at making pasta overcome the challenges it currently faces.

The five pillars Owalo intends to prioritize are; internal organization and governance, technology and innovation, product and services, the corporation’s financial management and policy and regulatory environment.

CS Owalo also said that the skills of the corporations needed to be reviewed to match international standards, as well as reviewing the assets to ascertain their relevance to the current digital world.

“We will also review the skills needs and skills mix and their sustainable relevance for growth in the prevailing and future marketplaces, as well as review the assets base and its wider relevance now and in the future,” Owalo stated.
