As we move further into 2025, the Cytonn Money Market Fund (CMMF) continues to stand out for investors looking for low-risk, accessible ways to grow cash savings. Recent performance and features show why many are turning to CMMF for financial stability and short-term return potential.

What’s New with CMMF

  • In the first half of the 2025 financial year, CMMF realized a profit of KES 83.5 million, up from KES 28 million in the same period previously.

  • The fund has been delivering yields in the ballpark of ~13% p.a. recently.

  • Compared to many competitors, CMMF remains among the top-performing Money Market Funds in Kenya in terms of risk-adjusted returns.

Key Features That Make It Attractive

  1. Low Risk & Capital Preservation
CMMF invests in high-quality short-term Kenyan debt instruments (e.g. treasury bills, fixed deposits) and “near cash” holdings. This is designed to keep risk lower and preserve capital.

  2. Daily Compounding & Liquidity
Interest is calculated daily and added to clients’ accounts after costs, making earnings accumulate steadily. Also, one can withdraw funds when needed—providing flexibility.

  3. Ease of Access
The minimum initial investment is small enough for many people to start, and topping up is made simple. CMMF can be accessed via the Cytonn App, USSD (*809#), web portal, or other channels.

  4. No Entry or Exit Fees
One of the helpful features: there are no fees when entering or exiting the fund, which reduces friction for investors wanting to move in or out.

What to Keep in Mind

  • Returns Can Vary: While ~13% is recent, actual returns depend on market conditions, interest rates, inflation, etc.

  • Liquidity Timing Matters: Deposits and withdrawals may take 24–48 hours or more depending on the channel used.

  • Opportunity Cost: Compared to riskier but higher-return assets like equities, gains will be lower—but for many, that tradeoff is valuable for stability.

Is It Right for You Now?

If you’re looking for a relatively safe place to park funds, earn reasonable returns, and retain easy access, CMMF is very relevant. Especially if you expect market volatility or want to balance your portfolio with less risky assets.

Take Action

  • Download the Cytonn App to open or top up your CMMF account.

  • *Dial 809# for quick access via USSD.
