In a landmark move for Kenya’s automotive sector, Silver Box, a Middle East-based company specializing in advanced technology and business growth, has officially acquired Mobius Motors Kenya. Known for its rugged, locally assembled vehicles, Mobius Motors has long been a symbol of innovation tailored to the unique demands of the Kenyan market.
Founded 14 years ago with an investment of KES 5 billion, Mobius Motors has built a strong reputation in Kenya’s automotive industry. Silver Box’s acquisition aims to continue this legacy while driving growth and expansion. Production of Mobius 3 and a newly developed model is set to be in full operation by July 2025, with the launch of a new 4×4 off-road SUV scheduled for December 2025.
As part of the leadership transition, John Kavila has been appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mobius Motors. Kavila brings extensive expertise in manufacturing, operations, and customer service.
“I am deeply honored to lead Mobius Motors, a company renowned for its bold and innovative approach in creating a truly unique Kenyan brand,” said Kavila. “We are eager to build on this success by focusing on expanding our market share and increasing accessibility for Kenyan consumers.”
Outgoing CEO Nicolas Guibert expressed his confidence in the company’s future under Silver Box. “Among the three bids, Silver Box’s offer stood out not only for ensuring the continuity of Mobius but also for driving its growth and success in the next phase,” he said.
With Silver Box’s support, Mobius Motors plans to introduce new models, expand service stations, and solidify its role as a major player in the African automotive market. This acquisition marks a significant step in Kenya’s journey toward sustainable, locally focused vehicle production.
